I enjoyed this book so much more than the first book. All the character have grown up and are living their lives. Her best friend got her happily ever after that keeps on going. Layla is a journalist but doesn't have the job she really wants. She is secretly dating her boss. He proposes to her and she accepts but doesn't feel like its real because she can't tell anyone. As time goes by, her best friend keeps pointing out how all the people who she is closest to have no relationship with the man she is supposed to spend the rest of her life with.

Layla has been thinking of Trip, the only other person she ever loved and lost. She can't fathom why he has made a reappearance in her mind but she can't seem to escape it. When opportunity struck, she begs for an opportunity to have an interview with the new sexy and famous Trip Wiley.  When they come face to face they can't help but get caught up in the memory of what they once had together. Circumstances keep pushing them together and opening their eyes and hearts to what they pushes aside for so long. 

If you haven't figured it out, I seriously love Trip. In the first book I was rutting for him but in this book he won over the rest of my heart. Where I struggled wit Layla in the first book, this time around she was so much better. She was still self absorbed though. Trip had his issues in this book but he still went let his heart take over. There is just something about him that I really loved. Can't wait for the next book!

This was back in 1990, and I cite the year only to avoid dumbfounding you when references to big hair or stretch pants are mentioned. Although, come to think of it, I am from New Jersey, which may serve as explanation enough. We were teenagers then, way back in a time before anyone could even dream he’d turn into the Hollywood commodity that he is today.

In case you live under a rock and don't know who Trip Wiley is, just know that these days, he’s the actor found at the top of every casting director’s wish list. He’s incredibly talented and insanely gorgeous, the combination of which has made him very rich, very famous and very desirable.

And not just to casting directors, either.

I can’t confirm any of the gossip from his early years out in Tinseltown, but based on what I knew of his life before he was famous, I can tell you that the idea of Girls-Throwing-Themselves-At-Trip is not a new concept.

I should know. I was one of them.

And my life hasn’t been the same since.

My Review:

Layla is part of the popular crew. She used to be a tomboy but her best friend turned her into a hot girl. While in her English class a new kid arrives. He is nothing that any of the girls expected. He is smoking hot. Trip has been moving all over the place because of his father's job. They finally decide to settle in New Jersey. 

Trip's smile can melt any girl into a puddle. He's funny and confident. He draws everyone's attention no matter what he may be doing. He is automatically drawn into the popular crowd but becomes friends with just about everyone. When he is partnered with Layla for a English project on Shakespeare, he decides they should make a movie. 

Layla falls completely in love with him. They spend every spare minute together and even start working together but he begins dating the hottest girl in town. Layla thinks she can't compare and out of her league so she thinks she has no chance with him. She decides not to go to homecoming after a fight with her best friend. Trip shows up at her house and right when she thinks he might confess his feelings, they get interrupted. Layla over thinks what Trip had in mind and pushes him away. Months later she goes to a play where he is acting. They hit it off again and begin to spend every minute together but this time around they don't hold back.

This book was cute in that teenage love kind of way. Layla was definitely immature but she definitely went through the growing pains throughout the book. With her mom abandoning her, it impacted her life in every way. I love that even though her mom left she still stayed close to her dad and they were close. Her confident issues were definitely seen throughout the book. I always felt like she wasn't being true to herself but Trip brought the real her out.I absolutely love Trip. He was adorable and funny. He was the kind of guy that every girl wished they had when they were in high school. Even though his home life wasn't great, he didn't let it bring him down.

 I was still giggling as he chastised, “You haven’t returned my calls.”   I turned in Trip’s arms and saw his shiny white grin and the glint of mischief in his eyes, barely visible from under his baseball cap, and decided to bypass his reprimand. I mean, what was I supposed to say? “Sorry, pal. Just trying to avoid climbing you like a scratching post”? So instead I jabbed, “Nice disguise there, buddy. Whadja get the whole costume department to help you with it?”
   We gave each other a quick hug hello- quick being the operative word, here. Every inch of my skin had started buzzing and I wasn’t willing to risk getting caught in the melt of Trip. Again.    He ignored my jab as I pulled back, and instead smirked out his best Bogart, “Of all the movies, in all the towns, in all the world… she walks into mine.” His lips were curled back from his teeth, making him look and sound less like Bogie and more like Peter Brady.
   Pork chopsh and appleshauce. Gee, that’s shwell.   But I rolled my eyes and played along, placing a hand on his cheek and returning dramatically, “We’ll always have Jersey.”
