SYNOPSIS

One text can change everything.
Honor Calhoun never thought her life would ever be like the books she writes for a living. One morning while out for a run, she learns not all bad things are plots in novels. Some horrors can actually come true.
She faces off with a persistent attacker, holds her own, but in the end is taken hostage and thrown into a hole. In the middle of the woods.
But Honor didn’t go down there alone.
She took her kidnapper’s phone with her. With a spotty signal and a dying battery, her hope is slim.
Nathan Reed is an active duty Marine stationed at a small reserve base in Pennsylvania. All he wants is a calm and uneventful duty station where he can forget the memories of his time in a war-torn country.
But a single text changes everything.
Nathan becomes Honor’s only hope for survival, and he has to go against the clock, push aside his past, and take on a mission for a girl he’s never met.
Both of them want freedom… but they have to survive long enough to obtain it.

Book Review:

Let me just start off with how freaked out I was at the fact that I run and this is my biggest fear. This whole book was my nightmare come true! To top it off I am originally from Pennsylvania so I know how gorgeous the trails are and Marines are the hottest branch! I just hope that if I am ever in her shoes that I have the same outcome: Nathan.

Honor is a writer and runner. Every morning before she begins her day she goes out for a run on a beautiful Pennsylvania trail. While on a run she gets kidnapped. She never stops fighting the man and right before she is dropped into a 30 foot hole, she grabs his cell phone. He leaves with the promise of returning. Honor relentlessly tries calling 911 with no avail because she can't get service. When she is close to loosing her mind and giving up hope; she gets a text message.

Nathan is a Marine with memories of war that keep haunting him. As a distraction he plays poker with a group of guys. One Friday night the guy bringing the beer, Lex, shows up late. Before he gets there, Nathan sends him a text asking what the hold up is. During the game he gets a text message back asking for help. To prove that it is real, he asks for them to send a picture. He gets a picture of Honor in a hole.

Nathan goes to police for help but they are all busy so he decided to take matters into his own hands and use his military training to save Honor. As she waits for Nathan to help her, Lex comes back and makes her get out of the hole. Right when she thinks its all over, Nathan shows up. They run to rescue but on the way they continue to run into Lex who now is on a vengeance to kill them both.

Honor and Nathan begin to fall in love with each other. With each near death experience they draw closer and the connection between them grows. Even after they are home and semi-safe, they can't seem to stand being away from each other. No matter how good things become with them, Lex is still haunting and hunting.

From the minute Honor gets attacked she fights for her life and never gives up, no matter how bad it gets. Her strength is admirable. Nathan is every girls dream guy. He is rough, tough and oh so sexy with a gentle heart (in a manly way). This is one of those books that leaves you with a book hang-over. I was completely captivated. Everyone seriously needs to read this. It will blow you away!

Teaser:

Nathan flashed a grin in the darkness. I longed to see him in the light. I wanted to know the angles and planes of his face. I wanted to take in his features and truly see the man who had literally saved my life.

Nathan seemed oblivious to my thoughts as I watched him tidy up the first aid kit. Before he put it on the floor, he glanced at me. “Where else are you hurt?”

“I won’t be requiring any more Band-Aids,” I quipped.

He turned to look at me fully. His hand closed over mine and he gently took the flashlight from my grasp and clicked it off. “What about your ribs?”

“I don’t think you have anything in that kit for them.”

“Let me see them.”

“Wh-what?” My mouth ran dry. He wanted to look under my shirt?

“I want to see them.”

“That’s not really necessary—”

He studied me and then thrust his hand out in the space between us. “Hey, I’m Nathan Reed. It’s nice to meet you.”

I wanted to laugh. We were a little beyond a formal introduction. But it was fun (hey, you try being kidnapped and beaten and see what you consider fun), so I slid my hand into his. “I’m Honor.”

He held my hand a little longer than he needed to, his thumb brushing over the inside of my wrist. I caught myself right before I started purring like a cat.

That would have been hella embarrassing.

“I’m a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. My favorite color is green, and I like football.”

“What are you doing?” I asked, thoroughly charmed by him.

“Formally introducing myself so you’ll let me under your shirt.”

I laughed. “I usually don’t let men I just met under my shirt.”

“I’m irresistible.”

I smiled. “And so modest.”

Goodreads / Facebook / Website / Twitter

J.M. Miller first discovered her love of writing in high school where she penned poetry for extra credit in English class and even braved the anxiety of an open-mic night at a local coffee shop. Life soon followed, with a couple of careers, marriage, and a baby. The urge to write again came not long after her daughter's birth, this time calling for more than a few lines in a messy composition notebook.

She is a military spouse, and a veteran herself, who finds inspiration in the people she's met and the places she's lived and traveled.
