Book Review: To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

To All the Boys I've Loved Before (To All the Boys I've Loved Before, #1)To All the Boys I've Loved Before (To All the Boys I've Loved Before #1)
by
Hardcover355 pages
Published April 15th 2014 by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

(Goodreads Synopsis) Lara Jean's love life goes from imaginary to out of control in this heartfelt novel from the
New York Times bestselling author of The Summer I Turned Pretty series.

What if all the crushes you ever had found out how you felt about them... all at once?

Lara Jean Song keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her. They aren't love letters that anyone else wrote for her; these are ones she's written. One for every boy she's ever loved—five in all. When she writes, she pours out her heart and soul and says all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly, Lara Jean's love life goes from imaginary to out of control.

I was DYING for this book to come out and it took to stinking long before I had it. I remember when I took it to the counter I was all giddy and excited. I LLLLOOOOOVVVVEEEEDDDD the Summer Series. Unfortunately I didn't LOVE this book. I tried so hard but I just couldn't. Maybe I am growing out of this category of YA (lets just say thats the case here).

I absolutely loved Kitty. She is Lara Jean's little sitter and she is just so funny and completely herself. She never tries to be more than herself. I also loved the concept of the book. Everyone has their own way of venting especially when you are heart broken. I used to write my every though and feeling so I totally get writing goodbye letters.

Lara Jean was very young aka immature. Their were so many things that she just didn't get. The whole area of boys she had no experience with. I was so worried that she would end up getting herself into a compromising position but instead she was hurt so deeply. Can't lie totally cried for her a few times.

Overall this book wasnt terrible, it was just a little young for my taste. I couldn't understand her ignorance on so many levels but I enjoyed watching her growth. I can't lie though, I hated the ending. I was left with a wtf face. Don't take my word for it though. I know there were a lot of people who really loved it.

Book Review: For All You Have Left by Laura Miller

For All You Have Left by
Published February 11th 2014 by Createspace
Paperback270 pages

For All You Have Left synopsis:

When Logan was nine years old, her father landed a promotion and moved the family back to his old stomping grounds in Columbia, Mo. Logan traded in her old friends and a familiar setting for a new school filled with new faces, but she did get at least one good thing out of the trade—Andrew Amsel.

Andrew and Logan spend a childhood playing hide and seek and then four years at Truman High falling in love and dreaming about their future together. Then on graduation night, Andrew asks Logan to marry him. Logan doesn't even think twice before saying yes. Five days later, they elope.

But life has different plans for Logan. And now at twenty-two, she is in the midst of starting over when Jorgen Ryker moves in next door. Jorgen, a paramedic who grew up along the Missouri River bottoms, seems normal, and he's definitely easy on the eyes, but Logan still has her reservations—and her secrets. Can she put her old life aside to start anew? And what big secret is she hiding that Jorgen might already know?

For All You Have Left is a love story with an unexpected twist centering on three lives, two great loves and one epic journey in learning to love again.

Let me start off by telling you how I began to read this book. I had just received it in a beautiful package so I ran to the pool and sat out with my cousin and friend. While they are being typical girls tanning I am screaming like NOOOO DON'T LET IT BE!, OH NO!, OH GOD I'M GOING TO CRY! These reactions make people look at you crazy but in our little bookish world it usually means it could possibly be an exceptionally amazing book. Laura Miller brought out every emotion in me through her writing.

Andrew made me fall head over heels in love with him within the first few pages. He is seriously a dream boat. Logan is so completely in love that even though her world gets turned upside-down you can't help but feel her every pain and completely understand the undying love. I seriously tried to predict what was going to happen and what happened in the past but of course it didn't turn out how I thought. I swear half of the events were put there just to torture me.

Then of course there is Jorgen. Man how do you not love him but at the same time still completely love Andrew. It killed me but he was a whole other level of amazingness. First of all, completely gorgeous, then he is super funny and sweet. He is an EMT and loves it which makes you want to kiss him even more. I seriously felt Logan's dilemma.

I highly recommend this book to all the saps out there. I totally expected it to be a typical story young love, loss and heartbreak but no trust me it will throw you through a loop and keep you guessing. Laura Miller you make me a fan!

Book Review: A March Bride by @RachelHauck

A March Bride (A Year of Weddings, #4)

A March Bride (A Year of Weddings #4)
Published February 25th 2014
Kindle Edition
Zondervan

For review from Netgallery

Goodreads Synopsis:
Susanna has found her true prince, and their happily ever after is just around the corner. But when Nate asks her to give up something precious to her, Susanna can’t help but wonder if it’s a sign that their love is not meant to be.
Susanna Truitt (Once Upon A Prince) is three weeks from royalty. She’ll soon marry King Nathaniel II of Brighton Kingdom. But when the government insists she renounce her American citizenship before the wedding, coupled with the lack of involvement by family and friends, her heart begins to doubt whether this marriage is God’s plan for her.
Nathaniel would do anything for his bride-to-be. But he knows his position requires that she give up a lot to be with him. Her life will never be her own — right down to her very identity. When she travels home to St. Simon’s Island, Georgia, right before the wedding, Nathaniel fears she won’t return. Gathering his courage, he devises a plan to win his bride all over again, and together they seek out a kingdom to treasure above all.

I am a HUGE Nate fan. He is so dreamy and amazing and makes you swoon from here to the moon. In the first book "Once Upon A Prince", you get to know Nate and Susanna and how they came together. Susanna struggled but in the end her love for Nate was stronger than anything that could present itself. In the second book "Princess Ever After" we get to see them again. King Nathaniel shows his compassion and amazing heart every time. Susanna's willingness to help and be there for Reggie makes you love her more.
I love the honesty in the characters of their faith. As Christian's we go through struggles just like everyone else and our faith is constantly challenged. It is so hard to just let go and allow God to be in control when you want to make the outcome your own. This book and really all the books in this series show the realness of that struggle. The peace one feels after finally letting go is depicted perfectly in this book.
I became a fan of Rachel Hauck after reading Once Upon A Prince. With each book I love her writing more. Honestly if you haven't read any of her books then you seriously need to go grab Once Upon A Prince.

PRINCESS EVER AFTER by @RachelHauck Blog Tour: Review and Giveaway!

Princess Ever After by Rachel Hauck
The Royal Wedding Series
Zondervan/
Release date: February 4, 2013

About the book: A Royal Wedding Book
Regina Beswick was born to be a princess.
But she's content to be a small-town girl, running a classic auto restoration shop, unaware a secret destiny awaits her. One that will leap from the pages of her grandmother's hand-painted book of fairytales.
Tanner Burkhardt is the stoic Minister of Culture for the Grand Duchy of Hessenberg. When he is tasked to retrieve the long-lost princess, he must overcome his fear of failure in order to secure his nation's future---and his own.

Yet lurking in the political shadows is a fierce opponent with sinister plans to abolish the throne forever. Overwhelmed with opposition, Regina must decide if she's destined to restore old cars or an ancient nation. Together---with a little divine intervention---Regina and Tanner discover the truth of her heritage and the healing power of true love.

If I wasn't a fan of Rachel after the first book then this one definitely sealed the deal. There is just something about a regular girl getting shipped off to another country and become royal that I love. Maybe its the fact that all girls wanted to be a princess or meet her prince. Rachel has a way of capturing your attention with each page and before you know it you have spent a whole day glued to the book feeling every emotion as they present themselves through the characters. I feel completely in love with these characters and never wanted the story to end. Regina owns a car restoration shop in Tallahassee, FL. She used to be a hot shot accountant but went after her passion of restoring classic cars. Every Friday they had a gathering called Reggie's Court where they talked shop with friends and had an evening of love and laughter. The last thing Reggie expected was for handsome Tanner to walk in and turn her would upside down. Tanner has been sent by the king to bring Princess Regina back to Hessenberg to give them their country back. Tanner is determined to not stay from the mission because of his dark past. The never thought Reggie would be so difficult or beautiful. She made him feel things that he never had before or thought he would ever find. Reggie goes to Hessenberg with Tanner to give it a try and to find out more about her grandmother. As she struggles with the truth of who she is, she also struggles with falling in love and feeling things she never allowed herself to feel before. If anyone remembers my review of Once Upon A Prince then you know how much I loved Nathaniel. That alone was reason enough for me to want this book. Even though he is hard to replace, Tanner was really incredible. He went from the tough guy keeping his emotions in check to completely surrendering to love and making you swoon half way to the moon. I highly recommend everyone jump on the Royal Wedding boat. You will be completely blown away.

It Had to be You by Susan May Warren Book Review & Q&A

It Had To Be You
A Christiansen Family Novel
Book 2
by Susan May Warren
Tyndale House Publishers
For review from publisher

Synopsis:
Eden Christiansen never imagined her role as her younger brother Owen’s cheerleader would keep her on the sidelines of her own life. Sure, it feels good to be needed, but looking after the reckless NHL rookie leaves little time for Eden to focus on her own career. She dreamed of making a name for herself as a reporter, but is stuck writing obits—and starting to fear she doesn’t have the chops to land a major story. If only someone would step up to mentor Owen . . . but she knows better than to expect help from team veteran and bad-boy enforcer Jace Jacobsen.

Jace has built his career on the infamous reputation of his aggressive behavior—on and off the ice. Now at a crossroads about his future in hockey, that reputation has him trapped. And the guilt-trip he’s getting from Eden Christiansen isn’t making things any easier. But when Owen’s carelessness leads to a career-threatening injury and Eden stumbles upon a story that could be her big break, she and Jace are thrown together . . . and begin to wonder if they belong on the same team after all.

 Book Review:

This is the best book that I have read in 2014 so far. I am completely in love with this book and was so sad to see it end. Not to mention how head-over-heels in love I am with Jace. Every girl can't help but love the star or anytime but when it comes to someone as amazing as Jace; you can't help but want to pull him out of the book. I never expected this book to take some of the turns that it did but the constant surprise of evens made me feel every emotion along with Eden and Jace. I loved that it didn't put Jesus in a box and make it seem like once you get saved everything is perfect and you never struggle again. Absolutely great job Susan!

Now lets get into the juicy details of this book.  Eden was the person who took care of everyone (I can relate to that). She took over the role of being her brother Owen's cheerleader and generally anything he needed. Owen gets onto the team of his dreams and plays with his role-model Jace Jacobsen. Eden does everything in her power to keep Owen straight and away from Jace but he ends up just pushing Eden out of his life. Eden becomes lost with confused with her own life and can't seem to stay away Jace who is there everywhere she turns.

Jace struggles with his reputation and career as his injury's becomes worse. Eden seems to get under his skin and he wants to stay far away from her because she is a reporter. The last thing he needs is his injury and lack of future to get published but in trying to push her away he ends up bringing her closer.

As the two of them join together to help someone they stumbled upon, they find exactly what they needed in their lives and what they truly want.

Author Q & A
http://www.tyndale.com/authorphotos/amazon/705/pic_full_warren_susanmay.jpg
1. This is the second installment in a new six-book series. Can you give us a bit of background on this series?
The Christiansen Family series is a spin-off of the bestselling Deep Haven collection, stories about the townspeople of Deep Haven, Minnesota, a tiny resort town on the north shore of Lake Superior. The original series started with a book titled Happily Ever After and grew to include six titles. However, one family began to stand out, and we decided their story needed to be told. We wanted a series about a family with adult children learning what it meant to carry on the legacy of faith into their lives. And I wanted to write a series that would really let readers dig into the family, feel like they were a part of their journey.
2. This Christiansen Family series is set in Deep Haven, Minnesota. Tell us about this setting.
It’s a gorgeous place to set a story—on the rocky shores of Lake Superior, in a tiny town where everyone knows your name. It’s a town with a rich heritage, strong ties, and a place where people want to escape—in fiction and in real life (as it is modeled after my town of Grand Marais, Minnesota). You’ll find people from all walks of life here—and most importantly, Evergreen Resort, run by the Christiansen family for four generations.
3. What is your hope for this series?
Of course, I hope people fall as much in love with the Christiansens as I have. They’re a great bunch—all led by John and Ingrid Christiansen, who have tried to instill their values into their children. But each child has their own path to walk, and part of the series is just watching as they walk that path—through the good and the bad, trying to figure out where their faith and their parents’ legacy fit into their lives. It’s a contemporary epic family series set in the wilds of northern Minnesota with romance, suspense, and lots of great family drama!
4. What was your inspiration for this particular book and the main character Eden Christiansen?
Eden Christiansen came from a number of places. Watching the siblings of movie stars and athletes, watching my own daughter cheer her athlete brothers, even watching my friends, parents who feel on the sidelines of their children’s lives . . . maybe even a little left behind as they leave for college. I began to wonder—what if you had an amazing sibling, and your entire family focused on his or her successes, and you felt left behind, void of your own amazingness? This is Eden—who feels like she hasn’t accomplished anything and is sitting on the sidelines of her life. She feels like she needs to “get into the game” but doesn’t know how or where to start. And she feels like she really has nothing spectacular to offer . . .
But God has different plans . . .
5. Did you base the character of Jace Jacobsen on anyone in particular?
Jace was loosely modeled after famed Minnesota Wild enforcer Derek Boogaard, who died, in part, due to the many concussions he suffered as a hockey player. The problem of concussions with today’s athletes, especially in hockey and football, can be life-threatening for athletes, and although hockey (and football!) is played much differently today, it’s still an issue.
I wanted Jace to have the opposite problem from Eden—he is only good at one thing. In fact, he’s spectacular at it, but he believes if he walks away from it, he will be nothing. So same problem . . . different perspective. It gave me a good opportunity as an author to examine our “worth.”
Of course, adding the John Doe element only rounded that theme out with yet another perspective. I loved how these three angles came together.
6. What lessons or truths will your readers find in the pages of this novel?
I think we all need to see our worth not in relationship to our external successes but in how we work out the task God has for us. How we love one another, how we use our gifts and talents. How we abide with God in our daily lives. Hopefully readers will begin seeing their worth in a new way.
7. How do you expect this new series to resonate with your audience? How do you want your books to make them feel?
I am hoping readers walk away from this book, and this series, with hope. The sense that they belong to something—to God, to family—and the feeling that our lives are not chaotic or out of control, but that God has a unique and amazing journey for each of us, and it’s lived out within our relationships. I want them to feel as if they’d found a new set of friends.
8. Have you received any feedback from your fans on this series? What are they saying?
People fell immediately in love with Darek and his sweet son, Tiger, in Take a Chance on Me, and I think readers will really enjoy Jace and Eden’s romance in this story. I’m thankful that people enjoy the work I put into developing my characters and the romance, and I have loved diving into these multilayered stories about people with realistic, everyday struggles.
9. As a writer, what did you particularly enjoy about crafting this story?
I loved writing about Minnesota in the winter. And I loved the story of John Doe and uncovering who he might be. (I plotted it like a mystery, so it was fun to revisit my mystery-plotting techniques). I especially loved the layers of Jace, the hero, and how, with every turn, he became more intriguing.
10. What is the best advice or encouragement that you have received?
Try to up your writing game with each book, and just keep writing. Not every story appeals to every reader, but I try to write a story I would enjoy—and then hopefully my readers will also.
11. In your writing career, what are you most proud of?
I think I’ve stayed true to who I am and the kind of story I’m supposed to be writing. I’m very blessed by my reader friends and their constant encouragement. I am very blessed to spend my days with the Christiansen family!

In the Lyrics Blog Tour: 4 Star Review & Giveaway

Title: In the Lyrics
Author: Nacole Stayton
Publication Date: February 7, 2014
SummaryHensley Bradley is the definition of the girl-next-door. She’s kindhearted, beautiful, and talented. Bored with her mundane life, thoughts of fleeing her small town begin to consume her. With aspiring dreams to use her voice as a one-way ticket, she suddenly discovers that music might not be her only passion.

After a fallout back home, Colby Grant decides to leave his family’s farm, determined to show his father he’s more than just a wanna-be country singer. With his All-American good looks, it doesn’t take long for girls in his new town to focus their eyes on him. But things aren’t what they appear from the outside, and it isn’t long until Colby feels he doesn't fit into the perfect world that so quickly embraced him.

A chance encounter places Hensley in Colby’s path, but it isn’t her natural beauty that first captures his attention – it’s her voice.

When love and music mix, will the combination blossom into a beautiful melody or wither into a heart-wrenching tune?

Review:

Hensley is a sweet girl who has her mind set on leaving her down and making it big. She keeps a huge wall around her heart so that nothing can distract her from going after her dream. The last thing she ever expected was to fall head over heels in love with her best friends roommate. She allows herself to fall for Colby after a lot of fighting.

Colby falls completely in love with Hensley the minute he sets eyes on her. When they finally get on track with their relationship, he takes her home to meet his parents. After an emotional week and taking their relationship further, they are confronted with a new challenge. Colby is offered a contract with a record label but he turns it down they they don't take Hensley and Dusty as well. They guys from the record label turn around and offer Hensley a contract which she signs on the spot. Colby is angry that they would do that, hurt that she would sign without talking to him and sad that she is leaving him.

Colby was so stinking dreamy! He is that country boy that any girl can't help but fall for. He is so sweet and just plain adorable. My heart broke for him especially with his brother and then dealing with his dad. I just wanted to give him a big old hug. I wanted to drop kick Hensley for the way she treated him in the beginning and then for just up and leaving. I understand Hensley's reservations but come on girl!.

This book was pretty good so I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.

Excerpt:

“Do you know the first thing that I noticed about you?”
    She shakes her head no.
“It was your confidence. I had just gotten to town and was going to grab a bite to eat and then call Dusty, but I saw this girl sitting on the street corner.”
“I felt like you were staring holes in my head,” she says softly.
“Truthfully, I was. Anyway, once you started to sing…it was like…ya know when your favorite song comes on the radio and you’re jammin’, listening to every word, your heads bobbin’, and you’re just feeling the music, but then your phone rings and you know it’s a call you can’t miss? There’s a split second where you debate on pressing forward to voicemail so you can finish the song, but you’ve been waiting for this call, so you turn down the radio knowing you’ll miss your favorite part just to answer it. It was like you were my favorite song, and I was forwarding my calls to voicemail. In that moment, I didn’t care who was standing around me. All I was worried about was tuning in to you, listening to your voice.”
“I love you.” Those three simple words are spoken, and much to my amazement it’s Hensley that says them first.
Clutching her face hard in my hands, I kiss her. I kiss her for being so darn dumb and insecure, for acting like a jealous girl, and more importantly, for loving me through it all.

London Falling Blog Tour: 5 Star Review & Giveaway

Welcome to my stop In the London Falling Blog Tour! For the full schedule on the tour go to the following link: http://www.tafosterauthor.com/

BOOK SUMMARY:
It’s London’s senior year and she only needs one class to graduate. She just didn’t expect her final assignment: fall in love.
Communication 224 has a reputation for giving out the most unique projects of the semester. When London James and Beau Anderson signed up for the class they had no idea they would be paired up together, much less spend an entire semester working on their final grade.
Professor Garcia tasks them to produce a study on the hit reality show, Love Match, a show about strangers falling in love on over the top dates. London and Beau decide to debunk the popular show’s fantasy portrayal of romance. Determined they can date the entire semester and not fall for each other, the classmates share blogs about their dates and start a website where everyone can follow their dating experiment. Resisting their growing attraction for one another is harder than they thought.
London is in for the toughest class of her college career. The headstrong and success-driven student discovers there might be more important things in life than an A.

This book was the ultimate love game. For London's last required class before she graduates, she has to take Communication 224. She gets partnered with a guy that ran her over on his bike. They are assigned to prove whether the show "Love Match" is real or not. They automatically assume it isn't and decide to go on the same dates as the show and blog about each date. The last thing they ever expected was to actually fall in love. The problem is they are trying to prove it is fake and it is too late to switch up the story.

Beau is a blogger and for his senior year he comes up with a list of everything he wants to do around campus before the year is over. With each date real or fake they set out to do as many things on the list as possible. They are completely different and interested in different things yet somehow they fit like a perfect glove.

London on the other hand is dead-set on moving to California to become and actress and mentions it at every opportunity. This becomes a huge wedge in their real relationship which turns it fake. With the loss of what they had, London is on a mission to with the help of Professor Garcia to win Beau back with the limitations of the fake dates.

I haven't read a book that I enjoyed reading so much. This was my idea book to read and came along at the perfect time. I love NA books just have a hate the detailed sex and this book gave just enough to give the gist of what was happening but not go into the gory details. I love books with the impossible love. The unimaginable situation and of course a dreamy guy like Beau.
