Book Review: The Only One

The Only One by Magan Vernon
October  2013

BOOK SUMMARY:
Honor student, manager at the campus coffee shop, owner of an impressive sweater collection – Melanie Wilder has it all together. Then John “John Boy” Walden strolls into her life wearing nothing more than an impish grin and all-too-revealing loin cloth.

Soon, make-out sessions replace homework, lust triumphs over work. And to further crumble her perfect world, an unexpected phone call threatens to take away everything she’s worked for.

Now, as Melanie struggles to pick up the pieces, she realizes that John may be the only one to put her life back together…unless he shatters it first.

Their differences threaten to tear them apart, unless they can make one another their only exception.

Mel is forced to go to a Halloween party by her best friend Monica where she runs right into the naked chest of John boy spilling her drink all over her chest. He offers to give her a shirt as he flirts relentlessly. She feels like a third wheel as Liv and her boyfriend dance when John boy comes behind her and starts dancing. Next thing you know they are making out and he invites her to his room but she turned him down and leaves. The next day John Boy shows up at her job flirting his buns off and then shows up in her class. They keep up with a flirtatious game and until Melanie can't take it anymore and goes to the frat house in hopes to have him for a night and get it out of her system. While they are giving into their lust, she gets a call from the doctor telling her she has HPV. She completely breaks down in from of this uber sexy man that she barely knows. She tries to give him an out to run for the hills but he doesn't take it.

With all her insecurity issues she doesn't understand nor can she accept why such a beautiful man would want to deal with a girl going through cancer that he hasn't had sex with. She lets her insecurities get the best of her and when she finds a reason to doubt him, she pushes him away with everything in her but he refuses to let her go.

This book broke my heart and then pieced it make together. Cancer stories always kill me but man this one really hit home. I related a lot to Melanie's personality. I found myself finding a lot of similarities with Melanie and Monica. John really was amazing. I was nervous about him in the beginning but I really had my heart set on him being THE ONE. I definitely think everyone needs to read this book. It is a tear jerker but so worth it. Plus who can resist a hottie like John Boy!

Top Ten Reasons you should read The Only One

10.) Number One New York Times Best Selling Author, Rachel Van Dyken loved it! She said she could read it over and over again.
9.) It’s full of sexual innuendoes. If you ever thought “Gee can me inappropriate mind come up with an innuendo for that?” IT CAN.
8.) There isn’t isntalove. Okay maybe instalust, but you watch the characters romance unfold.
7.) Colin Wayne was the visual inspiration for John Boy (Google him. You’re welcome)
